Who can participate?
Anyone! Whatever subject you study, students above 18* are welcome to join!
*Note: Students must study in the Kent area. For example: CCCU, EKC Group colleges, University of Kent and UCA students are eligible to participate.
I have no idea what I'm doing?!
Don't worry, you aren't alone! Even though it may seem like you are, I promise you aren't :)
To recap, a hackathon is a 24 hour event where teams try and solve a problem given by a real life company.
Remember that this is a casual event! The main thing is that you learn and enjoy yourself.
Also remember that a solution does not have to perfectly work, or even work at all!
You should also be in a team, feel free to ask them what they need doing and see if you can help.
The following resource below is a great starting point for technical aspects, such as coding.

What should I bring?
A laptop, chargers, your phone, and anything to keep you comfortable (pillows/blankets) for the overnight stay.
Note: You do NOT have to stay overnight at Verena Holmes.
Is there food available?
Yes! Free lunch and dinner on Day 1, and free breakfast and lunch on Day 2 are provided to keep your brain fueled.
There will also be a tuck shop and vending machines for snacks.
What food is available?
The coffee dock and cafe on the second floor of Verena Holmes will be open till 5pm.
This applies to June 1st AND June 2nd!
Food such as sandwiches and wraps will be available.
Allergy information is displayed in person.
For dinner (Day 1): Pizza will be provided, as well as soft drinks!
For breakfast (Day 2): The CCSU will provide toast and cereal, as well as some pastries.
Note: Due to allergies, no foods containing nuts will be allowed!
What are the rules?
You must follow the CCCU and HackathonsUK Code of Conduct.
Also, you are not allowed to use pre existing projects.
The Golden Rule: treat others how you would like to be treated!
If you don't, your project will be disqualified and you will NOT eligible for any prizes.
This is the first ever overnight CCCU event. Will I be safe?
We have overnight security, and a designated sleeping area for hackers and jammers.
Volunteers and committee members will also be around overnight.
They can be identified by the purple shirts with Hackabury 2026 on them!
